Then he takes it down in order rather than pushing on it and hoping. He works with the 10-ton excavator and the thumb, pulling material toward the pile so it falls where he wants it. Roofing and siding come off in sections. He sorts as he goes: metal in one pile, wood in another, block and concrete in another, trash separate. Sorted material is easier and cheaper to get rid of than one mixed heap. Debris haul-off gets coordinated so it leaves the property instead of sitting there.

Slabs and foundations get saw cut or broken out and loaded, wire and rebar included. He digs the footers out too, because a buried footer left in place will telegraph through a new slab or a new lane later.

Then he closes the hole properly. The cellar hole or crawlspace gets cleaned out — no wood, no block, no trash buried in it — and fill goes back in lifts and gets packed as it comes up. He rough grades the spot into the ground around it so water moves off instead of pooling where the building used to be, puts topsoil back, and seeds and straws it. Silt fence and a stone entrance go in where the county wants them.
